Book Club Meeting 3

Well another Fantastic Night!! So much fun!!

This month we read two books. We wanted to read Twilight as we are going to see the film on the 19th of December when it comes out. There were a few of us though who had already read this book and so we decided to read the Host, another fantastic book by Stephenie Meyer.

So I think that by saying Lucy made heart cakes with little flags on them that say I LOVE EDWARD would sum up the feeling of the book. We all LOVED IT!! In fact when we got there this month straight away we started talking about the book. We couldnt stop. We just kept talking and talking. I think most of us felt like young teenagers again. We loved that this book captivated you from the beginning. Once you started reading it you didnt want to put it down. You just wanted to keep reading. And even when the book was finished it makes you want more. At some points you could feel what the people were feeling because of the despcriptivness of the book. One person mentioned when James on on the phone to Bella. How this person almost felt like she was the one receiving the phone call. We loved it and we really cant wait to see the movie!! We have deicded to pass on having Shirts printed which say I (heart) Edward. Thought that might be going a little too far.

Synopsis: Journalist Hope Jensen is devastated when her adoptive mother dies from ovarian cancer shortly after Christmas. Adding to her woes, her apartment is broken into and all of her emergency cash stolen. Hope then discovers that someone has left her a gift-a glass mason jar labeled "Christmas Jar," filled with money. Using her investigative skills, she learns that in recent years, several people have reported receiving these mysterious jars in times of need. Hope's search leads her to the Maxwell family and their generous Christmas tradition-and to some truths about her birth mother. In the tradition of Catherine Ryan Hyde's Pay It Forward, Wright's holiday novel could inspire others to Christmas generosity.

Some of the women have already been reading this and have advised not to read it while sitting at your desk at lunch as the tears will flow. I have read this story in the past and I Love It!!

The next book club meeting is on the 17th of December. Same time same place! be there or be square!!

Next month we are reading Christmas Jars by Jason F Wright (Hello Jason!! Thanks for all the lovely comments!!To say we are flattered would be an understatement!)

Second Book Club Meeting

Again we have had such an amazing time at the book club. Honestly who knew that it could be so fun. I do have to admit that I at times think the book club is just an excuse for us women to get together. Have a chat some yummy food and then if we get time to discuss the book.

Last night we talked about The Wednesday Letters written by Jason F Wright. I think the general feeling was that it was a good enjoyable book. It was an easy read. It had a few twists in it but I think for the most part everyone was able to figure out these twists before they even happen. I think that everyone liked the idea of the book how it is written as letters between two people. It is a nice book.

This next month we have decided to read Twilight especially as the movie is out on the 19th of December and we are all going to go and see it.

Twilight Synopsis: When 17 year old Isabella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father she expects that her new life will be as dull as the town. But in spite of her awkward manner and low expectations, she finds that her new classmates are drawn to the pale, dark haired girl in town. But not, it seems the Cullen Family. These five adopted brothers and sisters obviously prefer their own company and will make no exceptions for Bella. Bella is convinced that Edward Cullen in particular hates her, but she feels a strange attraction to him, although his hostility makes her feel almost physcially ill. He seems determined to push her away until, that is, he saves her life from an out of control car. Bella will soon discover that there is a very good reason for Edwards coldness. He and his family are vampires and he knows how dangerous it is for others to get close.

This is book one in a four part series. If you havent read it than it is a must read. I have read it as have a number of others in our book club and we all agree that it is an amazing read. As those of us who have read it love the author so much we have decided to read another of her novels whilst the other read Twilight. So we will be reading The Host. Which I am so excited to read.

At the same time as the recipe club we also do a recipe club. Everyone brings their favorite treat whether savoury or sweet. It doesnt matter. The last two months this has been one of the benefits of the book club. The food has been amazing and to be honest last night was no exception! The food was FANTASTIC!! Thanks to everyone who brought something yummy!!

Next months book club will be held on the 26th of November. We have also decided for the months of December we will have the book club on the 17th and we will be going to see the movie Twilight on the 19 (the day it opens). For the month of December we will be reading a shorter story called Christmas Jars. More information to come about that next month. I have decided to list the book just incase you are interested in Joining us for December alone. What a Part that month will be!!

Cant wait until next month!!

If you havent been able to attend our book club this far and would like to please email me amwhitfield@gmail.com and I can give you more details. The more the merrier.

First book Club Meeting

Hello everyone, Firstly let me start by saying that was so much fun!! Tonight we had our first book club meeting and it was a really great evening. We talked about books we had read ones we would like to read and decided on a book to read for the next month. The book we have chosen for this month is The Wednesday Letters By Jason F Wright.

Synopsis: "The Wednesday Letters is a heartwarming story that explores the true meaning of devotion and forgiveness. It begins with the death of Jack and Laurel Cooper who, after 39 years of marriage, die in each other’s arms in the suite of the bed and breakfast they owned and ran. But the tale of these incredible people doesn’t end there.

Following their parents’ tragic deaths, Jack and Laurel’s three adult children, Matthew, Samantha and Malcolm, return to the B&B to make funeral arrangements and to sort out their parents’ things — and their own troubled lives.

After a complicated reunion, the siblings are brought together by an amazing discovery: thousands of letters their father wrote to their mother every Wednesday from the day of their marriage until the day of their deaths. As they read about the joys and sorrows of a long marriage, it’s as though the three are meeting their parents for the first time. Then, they uncover a secret that changes everything they thought they knew about their family.

Don’t miss this moving reminder that, even in this digital age, the written word still holds power."

We have decided the Last Wednesday of every month is the best time to meet. The next book club meeting will be on the 29th of October at 7:30 pm at Emma's house again. We have also decided to have a recipe exchange at the same time. We had some really Yummy Desserts this week and Next month will be the same. So come along enjoy the company, the conversation and some fantastic food I know I sure did this time and cant wait until next month!!

ENJOY THE READ!!

First Club Meeting

Hello everyone we have finally got a date for the first book club as well as a place and time. So our first club meeting will be at Emma Scott's house. If you are unsure where Emma lives let me know and I can give you an address via email. We will start at 7:30 and we will only last an hour or so (depending on how much we talk ;)  ) This will be on Thursday the 25th of September. As we are not reading anything right now we will decide what everyone wants to read and I will give some ideas of where to get books for way cheap. If you will please bring an idea of a book that you would like to share with the book club, you can either bring this in your mind or a physical book, we will then each say a little about the book we have brought or the suggestion for the club to read and we will then either vote or choose a book title out of a hat (fictitious of course). Also if everyone would either make and easy dish for us to taste or buy something from the store that would be great. Obviously this is only if you want to but I think it would be really fun for us to have lovely refreshment. If you make something will you please bring the recipe for everyone to have if you bring enough for about 10 people that would be GREAT!!  We will also discuss what days are best for everyone. So if Thursdays are not good for you in the future we will try to get the dates changed to accommodate for everyone. Can you please email me and let me know if you will be there or ring whatever is most convenient my email is amwhitfield@gmail.com

I look forward to seeing you all there!! This is going to be a BLAST!xx

Dates

Hello all!! I have been trying to find the perfect date for the first Book Club meeting and it is looking like maybe the 24th of September is the best. It is a Wednesday evening. We have a location for the meeting (Thanks Emma) but just need to get a firm date set. So If you can email me or comment on the blog to let me know what you think I would really appreciate it. email is amwhitfield@gmail.com It is also looking like the best night for the book club is on Wednesdays. A lot of people have commitments on the Thursday. So does Wednesdays work for you all? Let me know what you think. And like I said before just because Twilight is up as what we are currently reading doesn't mean it is. I just put that there for an example for now. Cant wait to hear from you all!! xx

A New Book Club for Women

Hello all!! Welcome to The Book Club Page!! I am starting a new book club in Chorley England in the next few weeks. We will be meeting once a month probably the 3rd of 4th Thursday of each month. We will be going around to each others homes. I think it would also be enjoyable if we each made something to take to the book club meetings. Bring the recipe and we will exchange recipe's at the same time. More than anything this is a club for women who want to have a bit of fun, good conversation, good food & time to be women for an hour or so rather than being the wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, maid, nurse, teacher, taxi driver, chef & whatever else it is we do all the time. For one hour a month we will revert back to ourselves with our actual names whether that be Amy/ Sarah/ Emma / Becky/ or Eve rather than the names we now go by, mum, babe, sweetheart, grandma, sister etc. Keep an eye on the site for further updates including the exact time and date of the first club meeting!!
